http://swospam0418.pixnet.net/blog/post/460501310-jim-croce-----time-in-a-bottle

I Got a Name",

其中代表性的歌曲除了與標題同名的主打曲以外,就是這首 "I'll Have to Say  Love You in a Song"。

隔一天,Jim Croce 就向 Ingrid 獻上這首 "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song"。

"I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song" 在 Jim Croce 的系列作品中,比較特別的就是在曲子後段採用弦樂底襯和對位,

面對愛人時,常常會因為特別在乎,要嘛就是說不出話來 (run out of things to say),

不然就是反而說出不該說的話 (the word just came out wrong)。

: 「爸爸為了生活,不能很長時間陪著你們,也不知道怎麼和你們搭話,只好say I love you in a song 了」。

Well, I know it's kind of late.

I hope I didn't wake you.

But what I got to say can't wait.

I know you'd understand.

Every time I tried to tell you, the words just came out wrong.

So I'll have to say I love you in a song.

Yeah, I know it's kind of strange.

But every time I'm near you, I just ran out of things to say,

I know you'd understand.

Every time I tried to tell you, the words just came out wrong.

So I'll have to say I love you in a song.

Every time the time was right, all the words just came out wrong,

So I'll have to say I love you in a song.

Yeah, I know it's kind of late, I hope I didn't wake you.

But there's something that I just got to say.

I know you'd understand.

Every time I tried to tell you, the words just came out wrong.

So I'll have to say I love you in a song.

在1972年, Jim Croce 發表了他最成功的專輯 "You Don't Mess Around With Jim",

由於 "Time in a Bottle" 的成功,讓專輯在 Jim Croce 意外身亡後的1974年再度在市場上有強勢的表現,

除了標題曲與 "Time in a Bottle"以外,最有名的還有這首趣味的曲子 "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)"。

而 "a guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated",或許暗示女方早就已經面臨對Ray的情感衝突吧。

第二段歌詞提到 "I can't read the number that you just gave me",原因大概是眼中擒著淚水吧,

Thank you for your time, Ah, you've been so much more than kind.",

Operator, well could you help me place this call.

See, the number on the matchbook is old and faded.

She's living in L.A., with my best old ex-friend Ray.

A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated.

But isn't that the way they say it goes.

Well let's forget all that.

And give me the number if you can find it.

So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine, and to show I've overcome the blow.

I've learnt to take it well.

I only wish my words, could just convince myself.

That it just wasn't real, but that's not the way it feels.

Operator, well could you help me place this call,

Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me.

There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time.

I think about the love that I thought would save me.

Operator, well let's forget about this call.

There's no one there I really wanted to talk to.

Thank you for your time,

Ah, you've been so much more than kind.

You can keep the dime.
